Can We Just Skip to Spring?

Hey guys thanks for stopping by. As I type this, we are freezing here in Pikeville with a temperature of 14 degrees. I’m ready for spring.

Sunny with a high around 46 degrees. Winds finally calm down to a 5 MPH breeze.

Clouds move in and prevent temps from falling too much. Expect a low around 28 degrees.

A few showers cant be ruled out in the morning, but they’ll give way to partly cloudy skies in the afternoon with a high near 58.

So we are still watching the storm that’s coming in Sunday, and I think we have a good grip on what the impacts are going to be for our area. Here’s a special EKYWX graphic concerning the storm setup.

The track of this one is going right over the Appalachian mountains. I think the area under “rain to snow” on the map above will see a short period of “backlash” snow as the storm moves past. As we have seen many times in the past, that has the potential to drop several inches of snow so keep an eye on that.

There is still a lot of uncertainty with this storm, anything could change. But the models have some sort of a handle on it. Here’s the GFS Monday morning

I’ll have more on this storm tonight.  But as a recap  I’ll list what I’m thinking right now:

  • This will be mainly rain / mix event
  • The farther north you are, the better chance you have at seeing frozen precip
  • We may see a brief period of snow after the main part passes
  • Very cold air moves in afterward

Looking ahead, there’s something interesting going on in Gulf  next weekend… What’s this?

Welllll we won’t get into that just yet. LOL. Thanks for reading guys and make sure to share my blog and feel free to leave a comment!
